The RHP/Elgin Stage 1 8.1L cam offers 25-30 hp and 25-30 lb-ft of torque gains over the stock 8.1L cam, while maintaining a near stock idle quality. Shown here compared to the very popular ZZ502 BBC cam (required firing order change), the RHP/Elgin Stage 1 cam improved power below 3500 but lost out to the bigger cam above that rpm range. This test was run on a junkyard 8.1L equipped with a ported stock intake manifold, 102-mm throttle body and dyno headers (with no accessories). The test motor was also equipped with an upgraded spring package (look for springs very soon). Both cams were run with optimized AF and timing curves. Your stock combo in the vehicle will see even bigger gains from a cam swap and tune, if you are currently running the stock (mild) tune. For those wanting more power at slightly higher rpm, we are currently testing a stage 2 cam.
